The title of my book “What God Can Do With An Idiot” is intended to encourage all of us! The title for each chapter is what it is because I don’t want anybody thinking I’m maliciously calling these individuals from the Bible an idiot. None of us should ever think we can “judge” the life of a person and condemn them by pointing out all of his or her sinful thinking and sinful actions.
Instead, I want to communicate the truth from God’s Word that sometimes ALL of us – even and especially me! – think and act in a “stupid” manner because none of us are perfect in our thinking or actions.
In spite of these individuals behaving like “idiots” for a period of time or a specific moment, God’s Word reveals the truth that God’s love, grace, mercy, sovereignty, patience, faithfulness, forgiveness, and other attributes allowed Him to use these individuals to impact the lives of others. But most importantly, these people were used to bring glory to God which means to give the right opinion of God.
As you will see, that’s exactly what happened in spite of the ‘stupid choices’ each person made.
It’s encouraging to know the truth that God has a plan for each one of us. One of the passages in God’s Word that has encouraged me in many ways is Jeremiah 29:11-14a:
“‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the Lord.”
When we search for God with all of our hearts, we will follow the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:5:
“You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
So as your brother in Christ, or as a friend, I want to encourage you, if you are married, do NOT give this book to your spouse on their birthday or for Christmas; or, as a son or daughter, do NOT give this book to your dad or mom on their birthday or for Christmas. If you do, you’re a “stupid idiot”!
